HowTo: Build the system

Install Ubuntu 22.04 from USB

• Using a Linux Laptop, download Ubuntu 22.04

• Insert a USB

• Use the Startup Disk making software to make the USB into an .iso

⁃ you can also do this on non-Ubuntu systems

• Open up the box to ensure you have everything and know what everything is - in particular, the characteristics of the disk you’re installing to so you can recognize it

• On a Dell Optiplex, hit F12 when the PC is booting to access the one-time boot menu, then pick the USB flash drive. If you've created the install media correctly, it'll boot from it.

• Ensure you are prepared for the prompts:

⁃ you’ll be asked which disk to install into

⁃ you’ll be asked for a userid and password

⁃ you’ll be asked for network information

• In general, otherwise, just accept the defaults
